Eureka County — Public Review of the 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Eureka County — Public Review of the 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Review period: Monday, April 27, 2026 – Monday, May 25, 2026, 5:00 p.m.
Adoption hearing: Eureka County Board of Commissioners, Thursday, June 18th, 2026
What is the plan?
Eureka County, White Pine County, and the Ely Shoshone Tribe jointly prepare a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP) every five years. The plan has two purposes:
• Identify the natural and human-caused hazards that most affect our communities.
• Set priorities for the mitigation actions we will take to reduce future losses of life, property, and critical infrastructure.
Why is the plan required?
A FEMA-approved and locally adopted plan is a legal prerequisite for:
• Continued eligibility for federal mitigation grant funding — Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA).
• Federal Public Assistance dollars that rebuild public infrastructure after a presidentially declared disaster.
