Eureka County — Public Review of the 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan

Eureka County — Public Review of the 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan

Review period: Monday, April 27, 2026 – Monday, May 25, 2026, 5:00 p.m.

Adoption hearing: Eureka County Board of Commissioners, Thursday, June 18th, 2026

What is the plan?

Eureka County, White Pine County, and the Ely Shoshone Tribe jointly prepare a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP) every five years. The plan has two purposes:

Identify the natural and human-caused hazards that most affect our communities.

Set priorities for the mitigation actions we will take to reduce future losses of life, property, and critical infrastructure.

Why is the plan required?

A FEMA-approved and locally adopted plan is a legal prerequisite for:

Continued eligibility for federal mitigation grant funding — Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA).

Federal Public Assistance dollars that rebuild public infrastructure after a presidentially declared disaster.
